Michelle McQuien

Michelle McQuien graduated from the University of Georgia in 2011 with a Master’s degree in Spanish Linguistics. She is an Athens native and has served the local Spanish-speaking community in various capacities since 2009.
During her tenure at UGA, Michelle served as a volunteer at Mercy Health Center, a local Athens clinic that offers free medical care to the uninsured, where she provided spiritual care and prayer services to the clinic’s Spanish-speaking patients.
Later, Michelle joined the staff of Mercy Health Center, where she served Spanish-speaking patients for 3 years, filling the roles of patient liaison, medical interpreter, and translator of patient forms and education materials. In addition to her time in the nonprofit sector, Michelle also gained specialized experience working with Spanish-speaking patients at a local allergist’s office.
Michelle has served Spanish-speaking Georgians through her translation work with the SNAP-Education Department at UGA, translating nutrition education curricula that has been used in community education programs across the state.
Her work has also served Spanish-speakers across the globe; Michelle’s translation of the Bible study book At the Feet of the King: A 40 Day Challenge (A los Pies del Rey: Un Desafío de 40 Días) has been used at youth camps and in churches in Mexico.
In addition to Spanish translating, Michelle has worked in the nonprofit sector as a copywriter for MAP International, a Georgia-based global health organization that distributes medicine and health supplies to those in need around the world.
